Favorite Bookstores

  • Titcombs Bookstore is a cozy bookstore on the Cape in Massachusetts with a perfect mix of the old and the new. Aside from the section of new books, it has a long, long wall filled with well-known and obscure gems from children's literature.
  • The Henniker Book Farm is a well-stocked used and rare bookstore owned by a married couple of bibliophiles. While they only have a small selection of children's books, they are incredibly wonderful people. The store has two wood-burning stoves and a book-repair area. Plus a whole selection of beautiful Easton Press books and a special "Illustrated Books" section - not picture books, mind.
  • The Big Chicken Barn Books and Antiques store is not only fabulous because they have a great children's section in Maine's "largest used, rare and antiquarian bookstore" but it also has a whole storey dedicated to old stuff which is always fun to dig through.
  • McIntyre&Moore is a favorite bookstore I used to frequent a lot when I lived in Davis Square. It's a great source for lit crit books, and has a children's lit area that always has an interesting find, however small it may be.
  • Pandemonium Books is a bookstore solely dedicated to science fiction and fantasy with a small shelf dedicated to children's fantasy and science fiction. But I honestly can't think of the number of "grown-up" SF/F books I read while growing up. Bonus? Lots of games and gaming goodness.
